In June of 2010 Julie Makerov was the proud recipient and winner of the Dora Award for “Outstanding Performance in Opera” for her highly acclaimed performance as Senta in the Flying Dutchman with the Canadian Opera Company. An extension of the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA), this is Toronto’s most prestigious live theater award. The DORA is named for Dora Mavor Moore, a well-loved teacher and director who helped establish Canadian professional theater in the 1930’s and 1940’s. The jurors for this award draw its winners from 225 productions in 35 categories which include General Theater Production/Opera, Independent Theater, and Dance. Since the beginning of the Dora Awards 31 years ago, there have been 4222 nominations and 809 recipients.
